Meet Jamie McIntyre
Guided by experience, grounded in relationship — support that meets you where you are.
I’m Jamie McIntyre—a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Community Wellness Consultant based in rural Southwestern Ontario, working with individuals, organizations, and communities across Ontario and Manitoba. I’m a proud Red River Métis woman and a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation, with family and kinship ties across the Prairie provinces.
My work brings together clinical practice, community wellness, and capacity building to help individuals, organizations, and communities navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.

My Story
The way I work has been shaped as much by lived experience as by education and professional training.
I grew up in a mining community in Northern Ontario, where hard work and perseverance were part of everyday life. Experiencing the impact of a workplace tragedy at a young age gave me an early understanding that the effects of high-hazard work extend far beyond the individual worker, influencing families, relationships, and entire communities. That perspective continues to inform my practice.
Marriage brought me to rural Southwestern Ontario and into a multigenerational farming family. Today my husband and I operate a small mixed farm, raising crops, cattle, and Western stock horses. Living and working in agriculture has deepened my appreciation for the realities of rural life and reinforced lessons about trust, patience, timing, and respect for the pace of change—principles that continue to shape how I work with people.
Professionally, I began my career in child welfare before moving into mental health. Since then, my work has included a treatment centre dedicated exclusively to first responders, supporting emergency evacuations, providing contracted services in remote and fly-in First Nations, and walking alongside individuals and families following motor vehicle collisions. Together, these experiences have given me insight into the realities individuals, families, and communities face during times of stress and uncertainty. It also shaped a principle I continue to carry with me: listen before you lead.
Alongside this work, I spent four years as a Field Consultant with Laurentian University’s Indigenous Social Work program, supporting students across diverse practicum settings as they bridged theory and practice.

“Every place I’ve worked—every person and community I’ve learned from—has shaped the way I practice today.”
My Approach
Across every role I’ve held—from clinical practice and emergency response to community partnerships and teaching—the same belief has remained constant: meaningful work begins with respect and genuine curiosity.
I strive to approach every person, organization, and community with humility, curiosity, and the understanding that they are the experts in their own lives, experiences, and priorities. My role is to contribute my experience, ask thoughtful questions, and work alongside others as they find a path forward that reflects what matters most to them.
Areas of Focus
The settings may differ, but the purpose remains the same: supporting individuals, organizations, and communities in ways that are thoughtful, collaborative, and responsive to their unique context.
Counselling & Psychotheraphy
Supporting people through life’s challenges with an integrative approach that combines evidence-informed therapy with a whole-person perspective. Every person’s story, strengths, and goals shape the work we do together.
Community Wellness
Working alongside First Nations, Red River Métis, and Indigenous organizations to support community engagement, facilitation, wellness planning, and capacity development in ways that reflect local priorities and strengths.
Training, Coaching & Mentorship
Providing training in crisis response, de-escalation, brief stabilization, and harm reduction, while offering mentorship and consultation to grassroots programs, emerging practitioners, and experienced professionals.
Capacity & Coordination
Assisting organizations and communities as they strengthen partnerships, coordinate priorities, and navigate complex systems. I help bring people together, foster collaboration, and build on the work already underway.
Emergency Response & Recovery
Contributing to emergency response and recovery efforts through experience as a Mental Health Clinician, Health Lead, and Indigenous Relations Liaison, helping communities before, during, and after times of crisis.
Experiential & Land-Based Wellness
Creating opportunities for healing and growth through horses, agriculture, and land-based experiences, where reflection, connection, and hands-on learning offer another way to build confidence, communication, and well-being.
I work with a deliberately limited number of clients, organizations, and communities at any given time—a choice that protects the depth, quality, and thoughtfulness of the work.”

Outside the Office

Life outside of work follows the rhythm of the farm and the changing seasons. A lifelong equestrian and Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach, I enjoy fishing, canoeing, and bringing people together around a good meal. I stay closely connected to the Beyond Borders Red River Métis Community and, whenever possible, spend time participating in cultural and land-based activities.
Family—especially my four nephews—keeps me grounded in what all of this is for.
