Meet Jamie McIntyre

Led by Experience. Grounded in Respect.

Jamie McIntyre is a proud member of the Manitoba Métis Federation (Red River Métis), a Masters-level Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist and founder of her private practice based near Wardsville, Ontario. She brings together lived and professional experience as a clinician, farmer, coach, frontline worker, educator, and holistic practitioner.

Jamie understands the realities of carrying responsibility for others — and how difficult it can be to slow down, ask for help, and prioritize your own wellbeing. She offers a counselling space that is practical, relational, and client-centred, where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to move forward.

A Relational, Client-Centred Approach

Jamie offers both counselling and psychotherapy in line with OCSWSSW standards. Her approach is relational, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and holistic. She combines evidence-based therapies with experiential, land-based, and equine-assisted methods to help clients build resilience and achieve meaningful change.

She is trained in:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and CBT for Anxiety & Mood Disorders
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Polyvagal-Informed Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Gottman Method (in progress)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Equine Assisted Growth and Learning

She has also completed advanced education in (W)Holistic Evaluation, Decolonizing Approaches to Trauma Work, and the Principles of Holistic Practice, which guide her commitment to culturally responsive, whole-person care.

  • Prior to entering the social work profession, Jamie gained broad experience as an equestrian coach, mentor, and camp director. She led programs in canoe tripping, equestrian training, arts-based experiential learning, team building, and youth leadership, developing strong skills in facilitation and mentorship. These experiences gave her deep insight into group dynamics and the transformative power of experiential learning — foundations she continues to integrate into her therapeutic practice today.

Beyond the Therapy Room

As a wife, daughter, sister, and auntie to four nephews, Jamie values family connection as a constant source of strength. Having married into a farming family, she helps with caring for livestock, growing food, and keeping pace with the seasons — work that is both demanding and rewarding, and continues to teach patience, balance, and perseverance. She also enjoys simple moments such as a good cup of coffee, checking livestock on the quad with her husband, or sharing family meals in the field during busy seasons.

Jamie has nearly three decades of experience in the horse industry. She is a licensed Equestrian Canada coach working toward Western Competition Coach certification, and is dually certified through EAGALA as both an equine specialist and a mental health specialist. Horses remain central to her personal and professional life, and she finds meaning in their steady presence — the calm of the barn, the connection built through daily care, and the powerful ways horses help people heal.

Jamie is also committed to revitalizing her Michif roots by reconnecting with cultural traditions, developing land-based skills, and strengthening kinship networks. These practices keep her grounded in gratitude and belonging, reminding her — and those she serves — that healing is both individual and collective. Guided by these values, she is passionate about teaching life and social skills and helping build strong, vibrant communities today and for the future.
